May 8, 2007:
I’ll be graduating soon

Yup, I’m graduating and I’ll receive a bachelor of the arts in Creative Writing, with minors in English and Psychology. Four years of hard work have finally come to this point in my life. But, instead of jumping directly into the full time job market, I decided that I would take my degree one step further, and am applying for teaching certification. In a year or so, I hope to be in a high school classroom teaching English. While it’s a good choice, and a job that will allow me to write or travel during summers, and also move easier (teachers are required everywhere and English is becoming an international language), I wonder if my choice is simply to delay the inevitable for another year: that I’ll have to finally make decisions with my life. My plan has always been “finish college, finish college,” and here I stand at that point!

Mom wants me to go directly for my masters. Dad wants me to “prove myself an adult” and work full-time. John wants to move closer to his parents.

I don’t know what I want to do.

    Congratulations! )

You’re actually in the same boat I am, save you’re a couple of years ahead of me. The thing I’m currently considering–though, granted, that could change between now and 2009!–is to complete my bachelor’s degree then work part-time and perhaps study part-time to get a teaching certificate. Things also depend on which country I’ll be living in and finances! P Too many decisions!

At the end of the day, go where your heart is leading you. Your parents mean well, and they’ve led you well into adulthood, but now’s the time to start making these life-altering decisions yourself. What do YOU think would benefit you most mentally and emotionally over the next couple of years? )

    Good luck!

That’s good advice. My only problem is I have no idea where I want to be in a couple of years (location and education-wise). razz I know I’d like to continue my writing and maybe have some works published by then. But do I want to continue with my education straight away? Do I want to move out of Arizona (actually, I most likely want to, I just don’t know if I can afford it if I want to further my education…), etc., etc.

I always knew my path when I was younger: graduate! Graduate, graduate, graduate! But now that I have, I’ve got to rethink my path. It seemed easier when I was younger. -)
